The IT Industry is not very kind to people above 40 years of age. In pure operational roles today, the value added by a person stagnates after @12-15 years of experience. But salaries keep increasing every year and soon overtake the value. Therefore, in times of costcutting, the Industry becomes very unkind to people above 40 years of age. Just look around and you will find many people feeling scared.

Soon after year 2003, people rushed headlong into call-centre jobs which paid huge salaries to secondyear under-graduates for merely speaking English! Scarcity of “right people” drove the salaries sky high. Many got blinded by this seeming "success" and failed to equip themselves for real value-adding roles. Today, most of those people are approaching 40s and are confused about the next steps in their career. Even the well-placed can’t see beyond next 3-4 years.
